Intern Energy Program
At the core of the Building Performance Lab’s mission is support for the citywide effort to reduce the carbon footprint of our buildings as well as developing a workforce to manage those buildings for peak performance. Since 2006, the Lab's Intern Energy Program has placed CUNY students in a variety of energy measurement, management, and research projects. Employers have included Time Equities, Amicus Energy Solutions, the CUNY Office of Design, Construction and Management, Bright Power, the New York City Department of Education, and Vornado Realty Trust.
Training and mentoring that students receive through the program build on and supplement academic programs across CUNY, including engineering, architecture and architectural technology computer sciences, business, and urban planning.
An internship is the start of a career ladder that has led, for many of our students, from an associate degree program to a bachelor’s degree program. The program exposes interns to the many professional pathways presented by advanced property and energy management, and provides a foundation of knowledge that will be highly sought after in the new green economy.
The program is part of a national effort to develop green jobs -- jobs that are good for people and for the planet. In September 2008, two CUNY campuses participated in the Green Jobs Now National Day of Action. Read about it at 2050AD.org.
